歴史ある群馬県鬼石町に生まれ育った植村映子は、視覚芸術、伝統音楽など、多彩な領域を横断するアーティストであり、パフォーマー、そしてビジュアル・ストーリーテラーです。日本の伝統に深く根ざしながら、現代的な表現で新たな息吹を吹き込んでいます。
視覚アーティストとしての彼女は、人、モノ、場所が持つ「目に見えないエネルギー」を捉え、その本質を鮮やかなキャンバスへと描き出します。また、テキスタイルの修復を専門とするアーティストでもあり、伝統的な着物のシミや傷みを、柄足しという日本の伝統的な技法によって、着物の柄や全体の流れに調和するように美しく描き加えています。近年では、故郷・鬼石町に深く根ざした映画作品『魔法使いの弟子（The Wizard's Disciple）』に主演しました。アートとパフォーマンスを通じて、日本の伝統文化と現代のクリエイティブな表現の架け橋となり続けています。
Multidisciplinary Artist, Performer, and Visual Storyteller
Born and raised in the historic town of Oniishi, Gunma, Japan, Eiko Uemura is a multidisciplinary artist, performer, and visual storyteller whose work spans visual art, traditional music, and other creative disciplines. Deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, she brings new life to it through contemporary forms of expression.
As a visual artist, she captures the “invisible energy” held by people, objects, and places, and translates its essence onto vibrant canvases. She is also an artist specializing in textile restoration, using the traditional Japanese technique of “Gara tashi” to transform stains and damaged areas on traditional kimono into beautiful new elements that harmonize with the original patterns and overall flow of the garment.
In recent years, she starred in the film The Wizard’s Disciple, a work deeply rooted in her hometown of Oniishi. Through art and performance, she continues to build a bridge between Japan’s traditional culture and contemporary creative expression.
