Resonating Shards

Kinuya

Alongside her work  with Ken Ueno, Eliana Gómez is crafting a site-specific piece specifically for Onishi. Designed to interact directly with its surroundings, the performance integrates the venue's rich history and atmosphere, drawing inspiration from its past as a silk merchant shop.

Resonating Shards - Multimedia performance for Butoh dancer, non-Butoh movement artist/sound artist, sound and video - By Ken Ueno: When I was first invited to participate in the Onishi Art Festival, I wasn*t sure what I could bring to the place, or what the place might offer me in return. My knowledge of Gunma Prefecture came largely through the mediated landscapes of Japanese popular culture: anime and film. In Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, the protagonist escapes a zombie apocalypse in Tokyo by retreating to the rural countryside of Gunma. In Initial D, Gunma's winding mountain roads become the setting for an underground culture of street racing and drifting. These were my points of reference: Gunma as refuge from urban catastrophe, and Gunma as a landscape of speed, danger, and exhilaration.
